Cosmetic Surgical Procedure
The eyes are referred to as the window to the soul and age-related changes can make you look tired, older and even angry. There can be eyelid skin excess, fat excess, wrinkling and drooping of the upper and lower eyelids. An eyelid lift corrects these problems.
Am I a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
Excess skin, drooping eyelids, wrinkling and a hollowed-out appearance of the lower lids can be improved. Medical conditions such as thyroid disease, dry eye syndrome, glaucoma and neurologic conditions may require further evaluation before deciding to have the surgery. The goal of eyelid surgery is to look healthier, well rested and younger.
Consultation
At the consultation the patient's goals, concerns and particular anatomy help to decide if blepharoplasty is warranted and which variation of the procedure will best meet those goals. A general eye exam is performed and all questions are discussed.
Anesthesia
Depending on which variation is performed and the patient's desires, local anesthesia or local with sedation are used. It can be performed in office, surgical center or outpatient at the hospital.
Recovery
You will have soothing iced dressings on your eyes that can be removed but will help with comfort and swelling for 48 hours. Sutures are removed at two and seven days. Eye fatigue is common so extended reading and computer work is not recommended for ten days. You can bathe and wash your face the next day but avoid makeup. Contacts can be used at ten days. With a little concealer you can resume most activities at about ten days.
